Suryaa Telangana Desk: Hyderabad District Fire Officer Venkanna has issued safety guidelines for the public and firecracker shop owners ahead of the Diwali festival. Officials emphasized that negligence while handling firecrackers can lead to fire accidents, burns, eye injuries, and respiratory issues caused by smoke.
For the public, the fire department recommends bursting firecrackers only in open spaces, away from homes and vehicles. Adults must supervise children at all times. Individuals are advised to wear cotton clothing instead of synthetic or loose garments. Safety measures include not holding firecrackers in hand, not throwing them at others, and moving away immediately after lighting them. If a firecracker fails to ignite, it should not be touched immediately due to the risk of delayed detonation. Water, sand, and fire-extinguishing equipment should be kept nearby. Furthermore, firecrackers should not be stored in pockets, homes, or near vehicles, and individuals should not handle them under the influence of alcohol. Protective eyewear is recommended, and those with asthma or respiratory issues should avoid inhaling smoke.
Shop owners must adhere to strict regulations, including obtaining valid licenses and permits from relevant authorities. They are prohibited from storing firecrackers beyond permitted limits. Shops must be free of lamps, open flames, and smoking, with appropriate warning signs displayed. Owners must ensure adequate open space, maintain functional fire-extinguishing equipment, and ensure safe electrical wiring. Measures should be taken to prevent overcrowding, and in the event of a fire, the public must be evacuated to safety before notifying the fire department.
In case of minor burns, the affected area should be cooled with running water; substances like oil, turmeric, or toothpaste should not be applied. If an eye injury occurs, the eye should not be rubbed, and medical attention must be sought immediately. For severe burns, eye injuries, or breathing difficulties, individuals should proceed to a hospital without delay. Officials urged the public to prioritize safety to ensure a joyful festival, with a special focus on the protection of children.
