Health Experts Warn Against Risks Associated With Energy Drink Consumption

Suryaa Health Desk: Many people consume energy drinks to combat fatigue, stay awake while studying, or boost performance during gym workouts. While these beverages are marketed as providing instant energy, health experts warn that they can be harmful to the body.

Energy drinks typically contain high levels of caffeine, taurine, excessive sugar, and various stimulants. While these ingredients may temporarily stimulate the brain and reduce fatigue, they can lead to serious health problems over time. Experts note that high caffeine content can overstimulate the nervous system, potentially increasing heart rate, raising blood pressure, causing irregular heart rhythms, chest discomfort, and anxiety.

Consuming these drinks in the evening or at night can disrupt sleep cycles, leading to insomnia, increased fatigue, irritability, and reduced physical performance the following day. Furthermore, the high sugar content in these beverages increases the risk of obesity, tooth decay, and type-2 diabetes.

Experts advise children and adolescents to avoid these artificial drinks. Instead, they recommend consuming natural alternatives such as coconut water, fresh fruit juices, and buttermilk to maintain health.
