Suryaa International Desk: The Democratic Party has secured a victory in the 2026 United States midterm elections, gaining control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate. President Donald Trump has acknowledged the election results.

In the 435-seat House of Representatives, Democrats surpassed the 218-seat threshold required for a majority. In the Senate, the party secured 54 seats. A notable result included Troy Jackson’s victory over Susan Collins for the Maine Senate seat. Democrats also won in traditionally Republican-held areas, including Texas and Kansas.

The election results have impacted the US stock market, with volatility reported in the technology and defense sectors, while shares in green energy and healthcare companies saw slight gains. Surveys indicate that voter dissatisfaction regarding inflation and the cost of living contributed to the Democratic performance.

Democrats also won gubernatorial races in Georgia, Texas, Michigan, and Wisconsin. With a majority in Congress, the party plans to focus on government policy, artificial intelligence regulations, and healthcare funding. Democratic leaders stated that the results reflect a desire for change and committed to developing policies acceptable to the public. The new congressional majority will provide oversight on bills and legislation proposed by the Trump administration.
