Suryaa National Desk: Newly constructed residential, health and infrastructure cluster under 'Project Seabird' Phase 2A at Karwar Naval Base in Karnataka... The Indian Navy on October 15 inaugurated the newly constructed residential, health and infrastructure cluster under 'Project Seabird' Phase 2A at Karwar Naval Base in Karnataka. Vice Admiral Sanjay Vatsayan, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Western Naval Command inaugurated this critical infrastructure. Officials disclosed that through this expansion project, advanced facilities required for the welfare of naval personnel and civil employees have been made available. These new facilities include five massive residential towers with 300 residential units for defense civilian employees and a station health organization complex.

This health care infrastructure will be crucial in order to increase the bed capacity of Naval Base Hospital INHS Patanjali to 409 beds. In addition to these, a hilltop water reservoir with a capacity of two lakh litres, a drainage treatment plant, a solid waste disposal facility, four lanes of vehicular traffic and a separate bridge accommodation for pedestrians and cyclists have also been made available. As part of 'Project Seabird' Phase 2A, a naval air base, a full-fledged deckyard and state-of-the-art logistics facilities for warships and aircraft are being developed. With around 10,000 naval personnel, civilian employees and their families currently living here, the project will not only give a boost to the Uttara Kannada regional economy, industrial development and tourism, but will also generate direct and indirect employment opportunities on a large scale. These structures have been completed in accordance with the norms of Union Ministry of Environment and Indian Green Building Council (IGBC).

It is remarkable that this project will get IGBC Gold rating soon. Moreover, it is noteworthy that more than 90 percent of the materials and equipment used in these constructions are made with indigenous technology as part of the 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' call of the Central Government. Many senior officials including Vice Admiral Vivek Dahiya participated in the event.
