Another sensational bill regarding assisted dying has been introduced in Canada. A new bill has been proposed to allow people with complete loss of mental consciousness or memory to receive euthanasia based on a pre-written consent form.

Although the authorities revealed that the amendment was brought in to provide relief to patients suffering from serious illnesses, it has sparked intense debate in ethical and social circles. Current laws require the patient to be conscious and self-disclosed to receive euthanasia in Canada. But the new bill would allow doctors to approve euthanasia after they lose consciousness, if patients with Alzheimer's or other serious memory-loss diseases consent in advance in a legal document. Experts say that this approach places additional responsibility on the relatives of the patients and also on the medical staff.

Human rights groups, medical experts and religious organizations are divided on this controversial bill. While some advocate it as a real relief for those suffering from severe degenerative diseases who are unable to live a life of oil, others worry about the risk of its misuse. As there is going to be a serious debate on this bill in the Parliament of Canada, it is interesting to see what kind of consequences it will lead to in the coming days.
