British Finance Minister John Healey has officially announced that an additional 10 billion pounds will be given to strengthen the defense sector and help the country recover from the financial crisis.
The key decision came after a high-level telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. This latest decision taken by London, clarifying that it is committed to international security, is invigorating the Ukrainian camp. Under this latest package, about 7 billion pounds will be provided to Ukraine as financial assistance with a time frame of three years. In addition to this, another 3 billion pounds is reportedly earmarked for export finance guarantees and arms purchases.
The government has made it clear that another 500 million pounds of military aid will be received immediately on an urgent basis for the purchase of air defense systems to repel enemy missile attacks in the air, especially in view of the challenges that Ukraine will face in the coming winter. This is the largest economic and military package announced by Britain in the history of Ukraine. On this occasion, the top leaders of Britain reiterated that the British government will always stand by the people of Ukraine who are fighting against the Russian invasion. British sources have said they will work with international allies aimed at getting Vladimir Putin to the negotiating table, not just on defense aid, but on deepening economic sanctions against Russia.
