Suryaa Business Desk: A leading restaurant management and software service provider 'Toast Inc.' faces serious legal implications in America... The famous restaurant management and software services company 'Toast Inc.' has faced severe legal complications in America. The US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and several state attorneys general have jointly filed a lawsuit against restaurant owners, accusing them of charging hidden extra fees, forcing unwanted add-ons and imposing strict unsubscription rules to defraud restaurant owners. The lawsuit is creating a stir over Toast's tyrannical trade practices targeting small businesses and restaurant operators.
In its complaint, the FTC alleged that Toast was misleading consumers by not clearly disclosing the actual prices of hardware and software services offered by the company. It said it was unfair to require clients who did not initiate payment processing within 12 months of purchasing the subscription to return their hardware in full or pay a hefty retail value. Also, charging monthly processing fees even from temporarily closed restaurants and imposing a hefty cancellation fee of an additional $150 per month to cancel a subscription is alleged to be illegal. The complaint revealed that not only restaurant owners, but also ordinary customers who place online orders were charged additional service fees without any prior information.
Federal authorities have cracked down on Toast for violating consumer rights and lacking clear pricing transparency. In the wake of this lawsuit, financial experts are analyzing that surveillance of other fintech companies that provide digital software and payment processing services is also likely to increase in the coming days.
