Bangladesh Textile Sector Faces Crisis Amid Political Instability

✍️ Suryaa Now Reporter • 📅 Sunday, 08 November 2026 07:55 PM

Suryaa International Desk: Recent reports indicate that the ban on the Awami League party in Bangladesh is negatively impacting the country's ready-made garment sector, a primary economic resource. Ongoing political instability and unrest have created significant difficulties for workers.

The closure of hundreds of factories due to recent riots has resulted in the loss of employment for hundreds of thousands of workers, a large majority of whom are women. Reports note that factory management is now inquiring about political affiliations and union connections during the hiring process.

Workers are protesting due to rising inflation and stagnant wages. However, government sources have alleged that these protests and wage demands are linked to the Awami League. Analysts warn that viewing labor grievances through a political lens and suppressing worker dissatisfaction could stifle labor unions. International reports express concern that the crisis in this sector, which accounts for a significant portion of national exports, may severely impact the Bangladeshi economy.
