Suryaa National Desk: The Mumbai Police issued the most important prohibitory orders in the wake of the idol immersion process after the Durga Devi Sharannavaratri celebrations in the city of Mumbai. The Mumbai Police has issued a very important prohibitory order in the wake of the idol immersion process after the Durga Devi Sharannavaratri celebrations in the city of Mumbai. Mumbai Police Deputy Commissioner (Operations) Akbar Pathan has issued orders strictly prohibiting taking pictures and videos of Goddess Durga idols floating on water or partially submerged after immersion in reservoirs and seashores, as well as posting or broadcasting them on social media. Preservation of religious sentiments and law and order: These restrictions are imposed under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Samhita (BNSS)-2023. From October 20 to October 22, idols of Goddess Durga will be immersed in various reservoirs and seashores in Mumbai.

During this time the partially dissolved idols wash ashore or float on the water due to the high tide. They are collected by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) workers and respectfully reburied in deep places. However, the police clarified that there is a risk of seriously hurting the religious sentiments of the devotees by filming the scenes of such scattered idols or videos of workers moving them and spreading them on the Internet. The ban will be enforced across the Greater Mumbai Commissionerate as a precautionary measure as it could lead to law and order problems and unrest, he said. Criminal cases for violation of sanctions: These sanctions will be in force from October 20 to 22.

Anyone violating the rules by taking photos, recording videos or sharing them on social media like Facebook, X (Twitter), WhatsApp, Instagram has been warned that strict legal action will be taken. The order states that even after the expiry of this period, investigation and punishment will be applicable for the violations. Officials appealed to the people of the city and netizens to cooperate with the police department so that the festive atmosphere ends peacefully.
