Suryaa Business Desk: The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, has successfully completed the first trial export of kiwi fruit from Arunachal Pradesh. Approximately 1.5 metric tonnes of the fruit were exported to Dubai in the United Arab Emirates.
This initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region and the Arunachal Pradesh departments of Horticulture and Commerce. The exported shipment included Hayward, Monty, Allison, and Bruno varieties grown in the Ziro region of Arunachal Pradesh. The fruit is currently on display at a Lulu Hypermarket in Dubai.
Officials stated that this trial export is intended to assess consumer response and market demand in the international sector. The government aims to generate foreign exchange and improve employment opportunities for local farmers through these efforts. APEDA is planning to increase commercial exports of Arunachal kiwi fruit following an analysis of consumer preferences, packaging requirements, and quality standards. Financial experts have noted that this development is expected to provide a boost to the agricultural sector in the northeastern states.
