Chinese technology giant Alibaba Group got a huge relief in the US court. A federal court has responded positively to a petition filed by Alibaba against certain controversial contract terms and restrictions imposed by the US Department of Defense (Pentagon).

Alibaba went to court challenging the Pentagon's decision to block defense deals and contracts with Chinese companies, and the court granted an interim injunction in favor of the company. Lawyers for Alibaba have argued that the Defense Department's efforts to keep leading Chinese tech companies out of federal contracts in the name of US security interests violates legal rules. It was brought to the notice of the court that it is unfair to unilaterally impose restrictions on their business activities without any proper investigation or clear evidence. The judge, who examined the arguments of both sides, initially felt that there was strength in the arguments raised by Alibaba and stopped the Pentagon from implementing the rules.

The verdict comes amid heightened tensions between the US and China in the field of international trade and technology. This legal battle between national security and trade freedom is hotly debated in global corporate circles. The latest order temporarily clears the way for Alibaba to continue its business-related services. It remains to be seen what kind of impact this case will have on the policies of the US government once it reaches its final stage.
