Suryaa Business Desk: The incident of smuggling of artificial intelligence chips, the most important technology in the global market, is causing a stir... The case of trafficking of artificial intelligence chips, the most important technology in the global market, is creating a stir. A large number of high-performance AI chips were seized during surprise checks by customs officials at Malaysia's main airport, Kuala Lumpur International Airport. The customs department has officially announced that the value of these in the international market is about 49.5 million ringgits which is about 12.11 million US dollars. Experts believe that this smuggling is done to evade the strict technical sanctions and trade regulations imposed by the US.
According to the details disclosed by the officials, this illegal shipment came to light while conducting inspections in the free trade zone area of ββthe airport. A total of 30 server units were found to have the most valuable advanced AI chips. It was found that the containers were imported from a country in Asia and were to be re-exported to another region via Malaysia. However, Director of Customs Aspalila Ag Tua clarified that there was an attempt to smuggle this level of semiconductors without the necessary special trade permits. Officials found that the servers were misdeclared as normal electronic components in a misleading manner to avoid any suspicion in the official documents.
It is clear that US-made AI processors under technology restrictions have chosen this route to break the rules and join illegal channels. The Customs Department, which believes that a large-scale international syndicate is behind this smuggling, has detained a local Malaysian company that helped in this for investigation. Earlier in the month of June also in the wake of another massive smuggling attempt, customs officials have increased surveillance on this network. Officials said that at least five separate cases related to this syndicate have been identified so far, and chips worth over one hundred million ringgit have been seized. According to customs sources, more details are likely to be revealed in the coming days as a comprehensive investigation is going on in this case.
