Sunya National Desk: Abhijeet Deepke, founder of Cockroach Janta Party and Cockroach Movement, has been detained by the Delhi Police after calling for protests in the national capital, New Delhi. These pre-emptive detentions took place at the airport and in the vicinity of the protest premises at a time when they were trying to hold a massive rally at Jantar Mantar to protest against the behavior of the central government departments and the Election Commission. Footage of this early arrest went viral on social media and became a hot topic of discussion in political and student circles across the country.
Youth groups have called for the rally demanding a comprehensive revision of the electoral roll and the resignation of the Chief Election Commissioner. However, the police have made it clear that there is no permission for this protest program in view of maintaining law and order. Apart from making elaborate security arrangements, the police have imposed strict traffic restrictions in several key areas of the city to prevent the protesters from gathering across central Delhi. Along with Abhijeet Deepke, many youth leaders and supporters who came to participate in the agitation were detained by the police and taken to the nearest police stations.
Checks at Delhi borders have been intensified as a precautionary measure to avoid any untoward incident. The law enforcement officials warned that strict action would be taken against any illegal gatherings or protests, but the detained representatives protested that the right to protest in a democratic manner was being written off.
